SUMMARY:Family Night: Astronomy & the Perseid Meteor Shower Viewing
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a night under the stars and view the Perseid Meteor Shower from the Museum's grounds. Enjoy learning about meteor showers\, meteorites\, and other objects in the night sky from members of the Peoria Astronomical Society. A telescope will be available to enhance viewing opportunities. The PAS is a non-profit organization of amateur astronomers from Peoria\, Illinois and the surrounding communities. Participants should meet at the Eveland Village parking lot\, below the main museum building. Please dress appropriately for the outdoors and bring a lawn/camping chair or blanket and a small flash light. Kids may enjoy an activity bag to take home. Supplies are limited and available on a first come\, first served basis. The event will begin at 11:00 p.m. on August 11th and end at 3:00 a.m. August 12th and will be held outdoors (no entrance to the museum) with a portable toilet available for use. Admission is free and registration is not required. This event is co-sponsored by Dickson Mounds and the Astoria Public Library.
