Family Night: Astronomy & Perseid Meteor Shower Viewing
Families may enjoy viewing meteors zip through the sky throughout the night into the pre-dawn hours from the comfort of the Museum’s Observation Deck. Kids may also enjoy a variety of hands-on activities and crafts to take home.
In addition, Jesse Hoover, an acting member of the Peoria Astronomical Society, will share information on meteor showers, meteorites, and other objects in the night sky and have a telescope to enhance viewing opportunities. The PAS is a non-profit organization of amateur astronomers from Peoria, Illinois and the surrounding community. Information can be found on their website at www.astronomical.org.
Doors will open at 10:00 p.m. on August 10th and close at 5:00 a.m. August 11th. The public is welcome to come and go anytime during these open hours.
Participants should dress appropriately for the outdoors and bring a lawn/camping chair or blanket and small flash light. Light refreshments will be available.
