Salary Range: $4,700.00 to $4,700.00 Annually
PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Spoon River College assistant coach teaches sport techniques, playing rules, strategies, and tactics for the applicable athletic program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaches sports techniques, playing rules, strategies and playing tactics;
2. Assists Head Coach with conditioning program for athletes, appropriate for activities requiring endurance, strength, agility, etc.;
3. May supervise and must conduct practices and contests safely; may supervise locker rooms and weight rooms, group transportation (vans, buses, etc.);
4. May ensure that athletic facilities are in proper condition during practices and contests. Works cooperatively with school district(s) and park district(s) for scheduling, etc.
5. Teaches sportsmanship, cooperation, work ethic and responsibility to one's team;
6. May assist Head Coach with monitoring athletes' class attendance, grades and personal conduct;
7. Responds to player injuries with approved first aid techniques;
8. Manages uniforms, equipment, and facilities in a responsible manner;
9. Assists Head Coach with recruiting of athletes for athletic programs by speaking with coaches, reviewing recruiting game tapes, and visiting athletic contests. Directs potential recruits to Head Coach.
10. May be asked to attend coaches meetings and all related training.
11. May request funds through the Head Coach before meal, travel, etc.
12. Maintains knowledge and compliance of NJCAA, MWAC, and SRC rules and regulations.
13. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
14. May drive the 15 passenger bus as needed for team related travel.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

1. Knowledge of current coaching techniques, strategies, and rules is required.
2. A current and valid Illinois driver’s license with a clear motor vehicle records check (per the college’s definition of an authorized driver) is required.
3. A bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or related field is preferred.
4. Previous coaching experience is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical demands for this position include the ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, reach, stoop/kneel, use hands and fingers, talk and hear. This position requires physical ability to instruct, drill, teach techniques and playing tactics and supervise / conduct practices and contests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance. Vision requirements for this position include close, distance, and peripheral vision including the ability to read instructions, drive safely and focus. Work environment for this position includes typical indoor and/or outdoor sporting events (extremes in temperature, humid conditions, etc. moderate noise).
