PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The athletic trainer evaluates physical condition and advises and treats athletes to maintain maximum physical fitness for participation in athletic competition by performing the following duties
 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.    Performs assessment of injury or condition and takes appropriate follow-up steps to ensure proper care.

2.    Prescribes routine, preventative, and corrective exercises to strengthen muscles, increase balance, and improve flexibility.

3.    Provides game and event coverage for the assigned area.

4.    Responds to medical emergencies and provides assessment, stabilization, and first aid.

5.    Makes recommendations for athletic participation and return to sports guidelines.

6.    Completes accurate documentation of assessment and referrals.

7.    Refers athletes to physician or for continued care per protocol.

8.    Applies bracing and taping to athletes; performs manual techniques to relieve symptoms and improve function.

9.    Treats chronic minor injuries and related disabilities to maintain athletes’ performance.

10.    Collaborates with sports medicine providers, physicians, and other allied health professionals.

11.    Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications: 

1.    Bachelor’s Degree from CAATE accredited institution.

2.    NATA BOC Certification.

3.    State Licensure in Illinois.

4.    Approved CPR certification.
 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Physical demands for this position include the ability to stand, sit, walk, reach, stoop, bend, push, pull, kneel, climb, use hands and fingers, and talk/hear for extended periods of time.  This position requires the ability to lift and/or carry weight up to forty (40) pounds without assistance.  The work environment for this position includes extremes in indoor and outdoor temperatures.
